This is the 6th in our series of ‘Choral Evensong at Home” services – the First Sunday after Trinity
I am Director of Music at St James, and the music in this video is performed by four members of the choir who also happen to be part of my family!
We set up a little studio in my home office, which is a cabin at the bottom of our garden (I have a digital organ there), and sang everything from there. Mother Katie led the service, and two members of the choir read the lessons. One of our basses acted as host of the Zoom meeting.
The Psalm (43) appointed for this service speaks of the hope that God represents for the displaced and disquieted. Very much words for our times! Richard Shephard’s ‘Unison Service’ is a lyrical setting of the canticles, with touches of menacing colour in the centre of the Magnificat. All this darkness is thrown off in John Gardner’s fiery anthem ‘Fight the good fight with all thy might!”
We hope you enjoy this week’s service.
