Christian Aid Week

9th – 15th May

from Clem Norman

You can give to Christian Aid through the Church’s dedicated Just Giving Page: Christian Aid Week 2021 – St James Malden – JustGiving

St James’ congregation has been enthusiastic supporters of Christian Aid over more than 30 years. I took over from Geoff Butcher about 15 years ago. He organised the street collections which we did at that time and I continued with the same approach until we decided that we would only collect in Church.

Geoff and I have both lived and worked in West Africa and have a keen sense of a need to support this Christian overseas aid mission. Members of St James’ have also been drawn from different parts of the world where poverty is a problem and who understand the need to give generously. This need to give was underlined by the Archbishop of Canterbury in his Easter message.

We have always been able to collect around £2,000 a year and now we raise about this amount through church collections and bake sales. As we cannot do the latter at present the church collection is vital.

Christian Aid is suffering from lack of funds, as are so many charities, and this year has given priority to the need to help those for whom access to clean water is vital.
